Traditional Crafts Day - 23/08/2009

As part of this year's Penicuik Arts Festival the Penicuik House Project held a traditional crafts day on site within the new training centre.
A fun day was had by all and younger visitors tried their hand at stone cutting, spinning and weaving wool and painting plaster cast moulds.
Archaeology Scotland were also on hand with ancient craft activities. Visitors made their own necklaces by bow drilling through wood and, Ruth Bordoli Archaeology Scotland's outreach officer demonstrated how to grind grain into flour.
New Training Courses - 01/05/2009
Our new course brochure for 2009-2010 is now available with course dates timetabled until June 2010.
After many requests to extend the range of courses available within the project we have extended our practical training programme to include courses for building professionals and homeowners
For building professionals we have added two short courses, 'P1 Introduction to Masonry Repairs in Traditional Buildings' and the follow on course 'P2 Masonry Building Conservation'.
Both of these courses are also suitable for homeowners and we also have a one day 'Lime Pointing for Homeowners' course running on selected Saturdays

Would you like to help save Penicuik House? There are several ways to get involved.
Why not volunteer? We have activities suitable for all from helping out at open days and events to spending the weekend undertaking path clearing and wall repairs
We are also continuing to fundraise towards the project costs and would be extremely grateful for donations towards this worthwhile project.

Doors Open Day - 14/09/2008
Doors Open Day 2008
Saturday 13th Sept saw over 80 visitors to Penicuik House as part of Doors Open Day, despite the wet weather!
Project manager Stuart Beattie led tours of the exterior of the house, while Scottish Lime Centre Trust staff were on hand to talk about traditional building techniques.
Younger visitors also took the opportunity to get creative, painting plaster casts which could be kept as a souvenir of the day

Official Launch of the Penicuik House Project - 02/09/2008
Linda Fabiani, Scotland's Minister for Culture officially launched the Penicuik House Project on the 02 Sept 2008.
Speaking at the event held at Penicuik House the Minister said "Penicuik House is an excellent example of how public money, invested in historic buildings, can have multiple long term effect.
The Penicuik House Partnership will provide invaluable training, educational and employment opportunities in traditional conservation skills and will secure the long term future of this important building while providing increased public access."
