Penicuik Estate has a wealth of wonderful routes to tackle on foot, by bike or on horseback. We have a variety of tracks throughout the estate for all abilities , visitors can enjoy routes ranging from gentle rambles to more challenging scrambles!

Tracks and paths should be used responsibly by cyclists and horse riders, particularly in times of wet weather, to avoid damage. We offer multi-use paths so remember to be considerate to your fellow walkers, cyclists and riders as you explore – there’s plenty of room for everyone!

Stretch your legs and feast your eyes

When you’re out and about, look out for the rich array of wildlife that the Estate has to offer and see how many of the intriguing built structures you can find in the Designed Landscape.

From the Chinese Gates to the Ramsay Monument and from the Hurley Pond to the Roman Bridge, each feature has a fascinating story to reveal about the rich history of the Clerk Family and the Penicuik Estate.

Waymarked Trails

We are currently in the process of setting out a series of waymarked trails to guide you around the estate. These walks will cover a range of lengths and terrain types to suit all abilities. Please be advised that some of these routes are currently incomplete. We hope to have them finished soon!
